Support Nurse-Produced Radio

Please support nurse-produced radio in New York City on WBAI, 99.5 FM, this Friday, May 22, 2009, between 1:00 and 3:00 EDT. Barbara Glickstein, RN, MS, MPH, and Diana Mason, PhD, RN, FAAN, are reaching out to nurses to ask that they call the station between 1:15 and 3:00 EDT and make a donation of any amount to support Healthstyles, the program for which Barbara and Diana serve as producers and hosts. Even if you can't listen, you can call 212-209-2950 during that time and make a pledge or a donation.

For the past 25 years, Barbara Glickstein and Diana Mason have been producing this radio program on health and health policy for WBAI, a community radio station. Started by nurses Diane Mancino and Paula Tedesco in 1979 as a monthly program on women's health, Healthstyles has been on weekly for almost two decades. Barbara and Diana volunteer their time to this community radio station that is struggling financially, as are many nonprofit organizations during this economic downturn.

This Friday, May 22, Diana Mason will be hosting a two-hour fundraising special between 1:00 and 3:00. The two hours will focus on a discussion of the resources that are available to people if they lose their jobs or are otherwise uninsured or underinsured. Her guests will be Peter Newell and Danielle Holahan of the United Hospital Fund. The UHF has produced a booklet on "Hard Times and Health Insurance: Staying Covered When You Lose Your Job" that will be offered (along with other premiums) to people who call in with a donation.

Some of you may have been guests on Healthstyles and know that Barbara and Diana cover issues that other health media miss or cover only superficially. Whether you've been a guest, a listener, or are new to Healthstyles, we hope you'll support this effort to continue nurse-produced radio.
