Nurses at SUNY Stony Brook circulate petition to send to President Bush

April 30, 2003 -- President Bush's March 19 speech at the start of the war in Iraq included physicians but omitted nurses from a list of "first responders" to terrorism. In response, nurses at University Hospital Stony Brook in New York are circulating a petition to protest the omission and encourage appreciation for nursing by our nation's leaders.

The petition, drafted at the behest of Stony Brook Chief Nursing Officer Lee Xippolitos, RN, Ph.D., is being circulated by the Legislative Action Committee of Stony Brook's United Nursing Council.

Contact Bruce Teifer, RN, for copies of the paper petition to circulate at your institution. Alternatively, you can email President Bush our petition directly from here.
