Write patient education articles, books, guides and web sites

We need nurses to write articles for lay magazines, newspapers and books, patient education web sites, "health minute" op-eds on radio stations and other publications where patients go to look for health education. Nurses have a unique holistic perspective on health care and must establish themselves as reliable patient education professionals. For the public to award nursing the respect it deserves, they must begin to learn from nurses in the larger media.

Examples of patient educational materials include:

Every Woman: The Essential Guide for Healthy Living, the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses' (AWHONN) 2002 ed.

The patient education materials prepared by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists including the coloring book for children undergoing anesthesia, Sweet Dreams at the Hospital.

RNCentral.com's patient education materials on prevention and wellness.

The ICU answer page by Matt Castens, RN, BA, which educates the public about the experience of visiting loved ones in the intensive care unit.

Please contact us to let us know about other nurse-driven patient education efforts so that we can add them to this page. Thank you.
