What projects would the Center like to take on with partnerships with funders?

General Goals:

• Increase public understanding of nursing by providing accurate and comprehensive information on the nursing profession to news and entertainment media.
   
• Motivate nurses to participate in this goal by increasing their media awareness and reaching out to the media to advocate for their profession.

Specific Goals:

• Create and disseminate analyses of at least 100 global news and entertainment media portrayals of nursing per year.
   
• Initiate and pursue at least 10 media advocacy campaigns per year, including generating press coverage, facilitating grassroots contacts of relevant media, and coordinating assistance from collaborating partners.
   
• Speak each year to at least 10 nursing groups, including professional organizations and university groups, to educate and mobilize support for improving the public image of nursing.
   
• Develop and support chapters in major media markets around the globe to coordinate local media outreach. Chapter members will educate the media about nursing and the importance of a fair and accurate depiction of it, developing the many connections we have made. They will work to establish health radio shows, health minutes on television, get media training, monitor local media and establish relationships with local media figures and identify and promote nurses in local media markets.
   
• Expand and enhance the Center's web and traditional media platforms to facilitate greater access to information on nursing in the media and to enhance grassroots action, including the creation of a library of media depictions of nursing.
   
• Expand our international database of nursing experts to serve as sources for news stories and consultants for the entertainment media.
   
• Build organizational partnerships, including with professional and educational nursing groups and the nursing media, to help spread the word about the Center's mission and campaigns.
   
• Work more closely with nurses to create a broader database of story ideas for use by the media as they create their media pieces.
   
• Facilitate the development of nurse-driven media in a wide variety of media.
   
• Develop an ideal nursing uniform to help shape a professional understanding of nursing at ground level.
   
• Foster programs such as Nurse Shadowing programs to help increase understanding of nursing by those who create media, work with nurses and make decisions about nursing.
   
• Create and disseminate DVD presentations to educate nurses and nursing students about nursing's media image crisis and its effect on the global nursing shortage.
