Maryann F. Fralic, RN, DrPH, FAAN

Maryann Fralic photoMaryann F. Fralic, RN, DrPH, FAAN is Professor and Director, Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. She also serves as Executive Advisor for the Nursing Executive Center of The Advisory Board Company, Washington, D.C., and as Consultant for the Robert Wood Johnson Nurse Executive Fellows Program. Dr. Fralic holds an academic appointment with the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, Department of Health Policy and Management.

Dr. Fralic formerly was Vice President for Nursing, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Associate Dean for the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. She served as Senior Vice President, Nursing, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, New Jersey, and Clinical Associate Dean, Rutgers University College of Nursing.

Dr. Fralic holds a doctorate in health services administration from the University of Pittsburgh, where she taught in the graduate program in Nursing Administration. She received the University of Pittsburgh's first Distinguished Alumni Fellow Award. She was inducted by the University of Pittsburgh Chancellor as an inaugural Legacy Laureate. She is a recipient of the Nurse Alumnus Outstanding Achievement Award from the McKeesport Hospital School of Nursing.

Dr. Fralic is editor of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) book entitled Staffing Management and Methods. She served on the editorial board of The Johns Hopkins Family Health Book and edited Mosby's Capsules & Comments in Nursing Leadership & Management. She is a member of the editorial boards of The Journal of Nursing Administration, Nursing Leadership Forum, and formerly of Seminars for Nurse Managers. She has served as reviewer for The Journal of Professional Nursing, The American Journal of Nursing, and Nursing & Health Care.

Dr. Fralic was appointed by Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala and serves as a member Chair of the National Advisory Council on Nurse Education and Practice of the Health Resources and Serves Administration. She was a Trustee of the American Nurses Foundation and Johns Hopkins Home Health Services. She was a member of the Advisory Council for the National Institute for Nursing Research of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), was founding chairman of the AONE Committee on Research, and was a member of the AONE Board of Directors. She was chairman of the National Advisory Committee for the Ladders in Nursing Careers program, a $5 million Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant initiative for minority and economically disadvantaged health care workers.

Dr. Fralic was appointed to the PEW Health Professions Commission Advisory Panel for Nursing. She was a member of the Nursing Standards Task Force for the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO). She served as a Sigma Theta Tau Distinguished Lecturer.

Dr. Fralic was elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Nursing and the National Academies of Practice. She is a fellow in the Johnson & Johnson-Wharton Program in Management for Nurses. She is a national and international consultant, author, and lecturer in health care and nursing administration.
