I. Alan Fein, MD, MPH

Alan Fein is Research Associate Professor in the Department of Health Services Research, Management & Policy, of the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions. He is currently coordinating a collaborative outcomes research initiative involving the University of Florida and the AvMed Health Plans, the largest not-for-profit HMO in Florida. The research includes outcomes studies in pharmacoeconomics and the efficacy of novel models of health care delivery, with a focus on both the cost and quality of care. He has published extensively in the fields of critical care medicine, management and health care policy, and has served as consultant to a variety of health care organizations, hospitals, and the Brookings Institution.

Prior to his current position, he was Associate Professor of Surgery and Medicine, and chief of the division of Surgical Critical Care Medicine at Albany Medical College, Albany, New York. A member of numerous medical organizations, he is a past president of the New York State Society of Critical Care Medicine. He also served as the co-chair of two National Public Policy Development Seminars presented by the Brookings Institution in Washington DC, dealing with the medical, economic, societal, political and ethical ramifications of the rationing of health care in America.

Dr. Fein received an MD from the Medical College of Wisconsin, a masters in public health (MPH) from the University of Florida and a BA in biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He did his residency and a fellowship in cardiology and critical care medicine at State University of New York (S.U.N.Y.) Downstate Medical Center - Kings County Hospital.

Dr. Fein lives in Gainesville, Florida with his wife and children.
